Achievements

Throughout the years NDVS has been an innovative leader in the provision of services to women and children escaping domestic violence. We can proudly claim a number of "firsts" in the women's emergency services sector including:

  • The first women's shelter in South Australia to employ a dedicated Children's Worker. The position was originally funded by a grant obtained from the Education Department
  • The first women's shelter in South Australia to initiate the development of training programs on domestic violence for Police trainees
  • The first to initiate the involvement of women's shelters in the graduate training of senior Police Officers
  • In 1993 we won an award with a high commendation from the Australian Institute of Criminology for our "Spirals" Children's Program
  • The first SAAP funded service in South Australia to develop and register an Enterprise Agreement
  • The first women's shelter in Australia to be involved in the development and implementation of the Violence Intervention Program (VIP)
  • The only women's domestic violence service in South Australia to take a stand and challenge the secrecy surrounding domestic violence by locating our offices to a visible, high profile customer centre.
